Getting Curious About Pain In The Studio

Do you panic when a client tells you an exercise hurts? Feel like you need to throw out your whole session plan if pain is present? Think it's on you to know the answers about WHY it hurts? What if we could reframe our role in the studio? Instead of having to know all the answers (and fix them) - what if we opened up a space to get CURIOUS about their pain? If we showed them that it was ok to investigate, go hunting for clues, and make their own decisions about what do with their body?
Obsessed with movement and learning from a young age, this has lead to an interesting combination in training - a Bachelor of Dance , Diploma of Pilates Instruction, Bachelor of Health Science/Master of Physiotherapy, and in 2024 starting a Masters of Science in Medicine (Pain Management). Prior to opening AOK Keep Moving in 2020, Alex had been working as a Pilates Teacher since 2011 in mostly studio settings, as well as a Physiotherapist since 2016 at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and then in Private Practice in Kuwait. At AOK Keep Moving we have a focus on providing compassionate, whole-person care, with an emphasis on facilitating movement experiences. In addition to providing Physiotherapy, Pilates and Small Group Training services, Alex absolutely loves empowering other Pilates Teachers to lead with compassion, and connect-the-dots between their Teaching and current best-practice. She mentors the AOK team as well as supporting Pilates Teachers all over Australia and beyond through her Small Group Mentoring program.
